How did Tulsi Gabbard meet her husband, Abraham Williams?
In 2012, Williams was a volunteer on Gabbard’s campaign for a seat in the House of Representatives. Per Newsweek, he was a freelance photographer and took many of the well-known pictures of her during that period. Gabbard told The New York Times that, a year and a half later, a mutual friend threw a birthday party for her – where Williams asked her out. “It was the first time that we had a chance to kick back, relax and really talk on a personal level,” Gabbard told the publication.
A Unique Proposal
The couple both love water sports and Gabbard has said that the more time they spent together, the more they realized what they had in common. In fact, their mutual love of the ocean inspired Williams’ proposal, with the photographer popping the question while surfing. “He paddled over, pulled out a double-tethered contraption attached to a gold duct-tape-covered flotation device with a beautiful ring attached, and said, ‘I have a question for you: Will you marry me?’” Gabbard told The New York Times.
The couple got married on the eastern shore of Kahaluu, Hawaii, in 2015. The couple, who are Hindu, had a traditional Vedic ceremony, per People magazine. “It was the fishpond that the native Hawaiian people used to feed the village. It’s a secluded area with palm trees, with flowers, a quiet peaceful place,” Gabbard told People magazine of her wedding location.
A Love That Endures
On their fifth anniversary, Gabbard took to social media to share her heartfelt sentiments about Williams. She wrote, to my husband Abraham Williams — 5 years ago today I walked down the aisle and into your arms. I have never looked back. I love you with all of my heart. I am endlessly grateful for you — your love, your friendship, your incredible support. Our surf time, from sunny Hawaii to snowy New Hampshire. Our cooking (and eating) adventures.
