“My religion is based on truth and non-violence,” tweeted Congress MP Rahul Gandhi after being found guilty in a criminal defamation case filed against him over an alleged Modi surname remark. Truth is my God, non-violence is the means to achieve it – Mahatma Gandhi.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Rahul Gandhi being convicted by the Surat District Court said that he has got bail. These (BJP) people kept on changing the first judge, we were guessing but we are the people who believe in the law. We will fight according to the law.

On this matter, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that there is a conspiracy to eliminate non-BJP leaders and parties by prosecuting them. We have differences with the Congress, but it is not right to implicate Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case like this. It is the job of the public and the opposition to ask questions. We respect the court but disagree with the decision.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said on Rahul Gandhi’s defamation case, ‘Today there is pressure on the judiciary… The comments of Rahul Gandhi, such political comments keep going on. Don’t know how many such comments would have been made by Atal ji, Advani ji. But earlier the case was not registered in this way. We are confident that the right decision will be taken in the coming times.

He further said that we keep saying that our democracy is in danger because the judiciary, ECI, ED are under pressure and they are being misused. All decisions are taken on impact. Such comments are common… Rahul Gandhi is a courageous man and only he can take on the NDA government.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that there is an attempt to suppress the media, there is an attempt to influence the judiciary and on this level they are taking action against the people of the political party.

Explain that Rahul Gandhi has been convicted under section 504 of the IPC. Rahul Gandhi was booked for criminal defamation for commenting on the Modi surname. The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Verma had last Friday reserved the verdict for March 23 after hearing final arguments from both the sides. Rahul Gandhi has appeared in the court thrice so far for the hearing of the defamation case.

During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul had made a controversial statement regarding the Modi surname, four years after which the Surat court convicted Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case. When the court asked Rahul what did he want to say in this matter? So Rahul said that I had not given this statement intentionally.

A case was registered against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged statement ‘How come the surname of all thieves is Modi?’. The case was registered against Rahul on the complaint of BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi.
