In a recent ceremony held in Gurugram, the significance of hard work and dedication in shaping true commandos was emphasized by Tapan Deka, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Addressing the closing ceremony of the 15th All India Police Commando Competition, Deka highlighted the extraordinary skills, resilience, and commitment of commandos towards national security. This event not only showcased the physical and tactical prowess of India’s elite forces but also served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
The 15th edition of this prestigious competition commenced on February 10, bringing together some of the best commando units from across the country. With Maharashtra Police emerging as the overall champion, the competition witnessed fierce rivalry among 21 teams, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), who secured the first and second runner-up positions respectively. The event, hosted for the first time by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), provided a platform for commandos to demonstrate their endurance and tactical skills under real-life conditions.
During the event, GP Singh, the Director-General of CRPF, emphasized the importance of excellence, endurance, and strategic skills among the nation’s commandos. He congratulated the winning teams and participants for their remarkable performances. These competitions play a crucial role in enhancing the operational readiness of our security forces while fostering camaraderie among them.
In addition to the overall competition, individual events highlighted specific skills. The stand-alone sniper competition was particularly intense, with the National Security Guard (NSG) clinching the gold medal, while Maharashtra and Rajasthan took home silver and bronze medals respectively. The rigorous tests designed for this competition push the limits of physical and tactical abilities, ensuring that our commandos are always prepared for any eventuality.
This year’s competition included a whopping 663 personnel, comprising 44 officers from various central armed police forces and state police. The event is a testament to the dedication and hard work that goes into becoming a commando. Commandos are often viewed as the shield of the nation, and events like these reflect the intense training and commitment required to uphold this responsibility. In previous years, we have seen Andhra Pradesh commandos take home the title, but this year’s results underscore the ever-evolving landscape of commando capabilities across the country.
