Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, her talent-agent husband of 11 years, are splitting up. Witherspoon shared the news on Instagram on Friday, March 24.
“We have some personal news to share,” reads the statement Witherspoon shared with her 29.3 million followers. “It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce.”
The statement continues, “We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
The message was signed “Reese and Jim” and posted without a caption.
Witherspoon, 47, and Toth, 52, announced their engagement in 2010 and wed in a private ceremony in 2011. They share one son, Tennessee James, 10, who they welcomed in 2012. The couple have remained private over the years, with Witherspoon rarely sharing details about their relationship. Back in 2017 she celebrated their anniversary with a sweet Instagram, which has since been deleted.
“Six years ago I was lucky enough to marry this wonderful man,” she had written in the caption. “He makes me laugh everyday and supports me in everything I do. Happy anniversary, JT! Here’s to many more!”
Witherspoon was previously married to actor Ryan Phillippe, with whom she shares daughter Ava, 23, and son Deacon, 19.
