Due to the ever-increasing demand and exports of vehicles in the country, the production of vehicles is also increasing. At present, India is the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world. Recently the country has received a gift from nature. In this regard, Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that India can become the world’s largest producer of electric vehicles by using the lithium reserves found in Jammu and Kashmir.
Gadkari said on Friday that if India fully utilizes the recently discovered lithium reserves in Jammu and Kashmir, it will become the world’s number one automobile manufacturer. He also said that electric buses are the future of public transport in the country. Till now the country used to import 1,200 tonnes of lithium every year. An estimated 5.9 million tonne reserve of lithium was discovered in Reasi district by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). If the lithium reserve found in the country is utilised, then India will become the world’s largest vehicle market.
According to Gadkari, currently India’s automobile industry is worth Rs 7.5 lakh crore. The government gets maximum GST from this sector only. Recently an estimated 5.9 million tonnes of lithium reserves were discovered by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). After this, EV manufacturing is going to increase significantly. Because of which the government is also going to benefit.
